All-new for 2018, the Cadillac XT5 replaces the Cadillac SRX in the packed and quite popular luxury compact SUV segment. The 2018 Cadillac XT5 certainly has some stiff competition, but many of its Japanese and German rivals may also come to see it as a thorn in their side thanks to its modern equipment and balanced driving behaviour that will certainly convince a few buyers.

A powerful engine for the new 2018 Cadillac XT5

The 2018 Cadillac XT5 is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine developing 310 horsepower and 271 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The 2018 Cadillac XT5’s list of standard equipment is plentiful, and features a rearview camera with parking assist, power tailgate, keyless entry, leather seats, CUE infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features, dual-zone air conditioning, wireless charging for your mobile phone, and an 8-speaker Bose audio system.

That should be enough to meet the demands of most buyers, but if not there are three other versions which are also available. The Luxury model adds a heated steering wheel, a sunroof, 18-inch wheels and some driving assistance features such as blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and front parking assistance, in addition to windscreen wipers with rain sensors.

Then comes the Premium Luxury trim that offers the navigation system, an even more powerful 14-speaker Bose audio system, LED headlights, collision warning, lane departure warning, and automatic braking with pedestrian detection. When a potential danger is detected, the 2018 XT5 will notify the driver through a vibration in the seat, which can even provide information on where the potential danger is coming from. 20-inch wheels are also included, as are ventilated front seats.

Finally, the Platinum model adds a rear-view camera which displays what is going on behind you on a screen built into the rear-view mirror, a configurable set of instruments built into an 8-inch display, heads-up display, a 360-degree monitoring system, hands-free tailgate, uniquely-designed 20-inch rims, heated rear seats and other safety technologies such as vehicle tilt monitoring, vehicle motion sensor and alarm system.

In terms of cargo space and versatility, the 2018 Cadillac XT5 offers a 40/20/40 splitting rear seat for easy transport of all kinds of objects and up to 1,783 litres of cargo space.
